Mockingjay - Suzanne Collins This trilogy was amazing. It’s right up there with The Millennium Trilogy for me, which I also loved. I’m going to need both box sets for my birthday please (hint hint). Now that I think about it, those trilogies are a lot alike. Both have badass female protagonists who kick butt and take names, oodles of references to fire (both metaphorical and physical – Katniss as the girl who was on fire and Lisbeth as the girl who played with fire), and both have amazing plot lines with so many twists and turns you never know what's going to happen next and you can't wait to find out. I think these were the first series of books (aside from Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and its subsequent novels) that have ever kept me completely enthralled from beginning to end. Usually I get distracted or impatient or just tired of a series and move on to something else. But with The Hunger Games series, I had to bring everything else to a halt (even with only 20 pages to go til the end of the twisted yet fascinating American Psycho) and just keep reading - screw you, work and other obligations - because I just had to know how this ended.
